Biotechnology and M.D./PhD.

In this section I wanted to share my other path of an explorer which is that of a scientist. I have long been fascinated with biotechnology (Genetic Engineering) and medicine. I am currently wrapping up another degree, this one in biotechnology and pursuing my path to my M.D./PhD. My medical degree will be in internal medicine and my PhD. will focus on genetic engineering.

Biotechnology and M.D./PhD.

What is Biotechnology?

Biotechnology is a fascinating and very demanding field. It is comprised of the sciences of quantum physics, quantum mechanics, quantum engineering, chemistry, biology, genetics and computer science. I

 have been lucky enough to be accepted into the biotechnology program and to date have maintained a 4.0 GPA in the program which is an extremely demanding and exciting program. Many of my friends have gone on to work at some of the top research facilities such as Scripps Medical Research Facility. Currently I am working towards establishing my own research facility at one of the areas in the US designated as biotechnology incubator locations. These are locations such as Jupiter, Florida which encourage the development of biotechnology research facilities.

In addition I am working towards my M.D./PhD with the focus of my medical degree in internal medicine and the PhD will focus on genetic engineering. Currently I am in the State of Florida Honors College system and I look forward to the day when we will be able to cure diseases and enhance the quality of life through genetic engineering. I want to push the boundaries of science in my research. This is why the mission statement for my biotechnology company, Inmortalitatem Research Foundation, is:  We don't believe in "safe" answers or "reasonable" limitations.

example of biotechnology done right, and The Hulk, which is an example of biotechnology which went a little astray (LoL). In addition there are the X-Man movies which deal with genetic aberrations in humans and the results of these genetic aberrations.

However, the truth in the industry is just as fascinating and exciting. For example when Dr. DePinho was at Harvard Medical School and the Dana-Farber Cancer Research Institute he was able to basically reverse the aging process using mice as his experimental model. He did this through a process called TERT, Telomerase Reverse Transcription, which as you can see from one of my poster presentations I did a similar technique in isolating RNA from the nucleic acids of DNA and RNA and then I isolated mRNA from the RNA and then used reverse transcription and qPCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction). Polymerase Chain Reaction basically revolutionized the field of biotechnology allowing us quickly, easily and rapidly increase our sample of DNA to much larger quantities to work with in our research. qPCR differs from PCR in that it allows for real-time quantitative analysis of DNA.

Another exciting development in biotechnology has been the development of CRISPR-Cas9. This new technology is allowing us to edit the human genome in ways which previously were unimaginable. Emmanuel

 Charpentier was one of the key developers in this new technology. She is currently employed with the Max Planck Research Institute and everyone is waiting for her to receive the Noble Prize. I was able to meet with her during one of Max Planck's research conferences where I was invited by the Max Planck Research Institute to attend as one of the Fellows of Max Planck Research Institute.
